Foilmaker Questions

These questions have been lifted from the FoilDesignList FAQ database. Personally I find the Yahoo interface nasty, a wiki is much easier so they've been repeated here.
Where are the secondary tow-point Y values measured from?
It is the vertical distance below the top surface of the canopy, as a % of (flat) span.
What is the X position for the rear tow point?
The position in from wing-tip as % of 1/2 (flat?)wingspan. (out on a limb, here, folks) ~30% concentrates almost all braking effort on the tips, something like 40% is more reasonable.
What are reasonable settings for Secondary towpoint Y?
(Out on a limb here, folks) ~40% is way too short. Go for 60%+.
I can't get the "zig-zag" reinforcement lines or bridling points to print out under Windows
Install a more generic printer driver (e.g. HP Desket, or HP laserjet) rather than a more specific printer driver (well it worked for me...)
Can you move the point of max thickness of a profile without running into trouble?
Yes and no, when you do so, you no longer use the same original profil and/or is original aerodynamicals properties.
Where are the primary tow points measured from?
X is % of the rib chord back from the nose of the rib, Y is % of the rib chord below the datum line (which is the dotted line in the profile window).
Is there a manual for this software?
See Foilmaker.
